This is the a classic Dracula story through and through, but there are a lot of fun elements thrown in like Joker turning into a vampire, classic Batman characters like Vicky Vale having a unique role to play in the story, and some extremely thrilling sequences with well down fights scenes between Batman, Dracula, and his minions. This entire film feels right at home with the classic monster movies of the 1930’s and 40’s which is why I love it.

It retains the guitar rifts and rock feel of the series while also adding in some chillingly atmospheric moments. The same thing I said about the animation can be applied to music. Rewatching it now I do not know how they were aloud to get away with certain things because this kids film literally rains blood on Gotham often. This film has some very creepy designs, truly hunting imagery, and even as an adult it still finds a way to be unsettling. The sleek animation blends the great anime inspired style of the main series with horrifically satisfying elements from Dracula’s past. This film scared the living daylights out of me as a kid and certain moments from the horror story get burnt into your mind.

It is very entertaining to see the gothic atmosphere take center stage here as Batman is drop into a narrative from classic genre decade, the 1930s, that helped inspire him. This is just a fun Batman story with a backdrop that pays wondrous homage to classic Universal monster films. First off, I loved this show growing up and this is a great extension of that underrated animated series. When Penguin accidentally wakes him up it is to The Batman to stop him and his army of the undead. When Penguin and The Joker race to find a fabled mob treasure in the heart of Gotham Cemetery they got more then they bargain for as they find Dracula’s tomb. Dracula(2005), directed by Michael Goguen, is simply a great gothic horror film with a superhero twist.
